Accessibility Statement

Last Updated: October 14, 2026

Our Commitment

Abu Omar Halal wants every guest to be able to use this website: to read the menu, find a restaurant, check hours, plan catering and get in touch with us. We build and maintain this site with accessibility in mind, and we treat it as part of hospitality rather than an afterthought.

Our working target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That is a goal we design and test against, not a certification: we do not claim that this site is certified, fully compliant or guaranteed to meet any standard. Accessibility is ongoing work, and what follows describes what the site does today.

This statement applies to the website at abuomarhalal.com. Online ordering, our mobile apps, the app stores, social media and other services you reach through links on this site are operated by other companies under their own accessibility practices.

Keyboard Navigation

Every link, button, form field and menu on this site can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. No mouse is required.

  • A “Skip to content” link is the first thing you reach on every page, so you can jump straight past the header navigation.
  • The main navigation, the mobile menu, the menu category row and the location filters all work with Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter and the space bar.
  • The mobile navigation and the location panels close with the Escape key.
  • The confirmation dialog shown after you send a form keeps keyboard focus inside itself while it is open, and closes with Escape or with its own button.

Visible Keyboard Focus

Wherever you are on a page, you can see it. Keyboard focus is drawn with a thick, high-contrast outline that we never switch off, and the page keeps the focused control clear of the sticky header so it is not hidden behind it.

Structure for Screen Readers

  • Each page has one main heading, and the headings below it are nested in order rather than chosen for their size.
  • The regions of the page — header, navigation, main content and footer — are marked up as landmarks, so they can be listed and jumped between.
  • Each navigation region and each list of links carries a name that says which one it is.
  • Every form field has a visible label joined to it, required fields are announced as required, and form errors are announced when they appear rather than being shown only as a colour.
  • Images that carry meaning have text alternatives. Images that are purely decorative are marked as decorative, so they are skipped instead of read out.
  • Controls that show only an icon still carry a text name, and controls that have a state report that state.
  • The page declares its language, so a screen reader reads it with the right pronunciation.

Text, Contrast and Readable Content

Body text, headings, links, buttons and form fields are measured against WCAG AA contrast ratios, and we fix the ones that fall short. Text on this site is real text rather than pictures of text, so it can be resized, restyled or read aloud. The layout also holds together if you increase line height, letter spacing or word spacing in your browser.

Motion and Reduced-Motion Preferences

  • If your device or browser is set to reduce motion, this site honours that setting. Background videos do not start, carousels do not advance by themselves, and animated transitions are reduced or removed.
  • Where a background video does play, it is silent, it loops behind the page content as decoration, and it does not carry an on-screen pause control. If you want that movement to stop, turn on Reduce Motion in your device or browser settings: the background videos then do not play at all.
  • Videos you start yourself, further down a page, never start on their own and are never muted into the background.
  • Nothing on this site flashes.

Zoom and Different Screen Sizes

We check this site at 200% browser zoom and at screen widths down to 320 pixels. At those sizes the content reflows into a single column: you do not have to scroll sideways to read a line of text, and content is not cut off. The site is built to work the same way on a phone, a tablet and a desktop computer.

Where We Know There Is More To Do

Accessibility is an ongoing effort rather than a finished project, and we would rather tell you where we are than overstate it. Areas we are still working on include:

  • A few of our older news articles still have heading levels that do not nest perfectly.
  • Some of our downloadable PDF documents have not yet been prepared for screen readers. If you need the contents of one in another format, email us and we will send it to you.
  • Some of our videos do not yet have captions or a transcript.
  • Content embedded from other companies — online ordering, catering, maps, social media and the app stores — is outside our control and may not match the rest of this site.

We review this list as we continue to work on the site, and we update this page when something on it changes.

Reporting an Accessibility Problem

If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us. A report from someone who hit the problem is the most useful information we can get.

Email: info@abuomarhalal.com

It helps if you can tell us the address of the page, what you were trying to do, what happened instead, and the browser, device and any assistive technology you were using. If you would rather not include those details, write to us anyway and we will follow up.

We read every message and reply as soon as we can. If you need information from this website in another format, ask us and we will find a way to get it to you.
